Matt Petersen, Founder and Chair
For nearly three decades, Petersen has worked to find innovative solutions to some of the Earth’s most pressing problems. He is currently President and CEO of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, a non-profit organization that helps accelerate the commercialization of clean technologies. From 2013-17, Petersen served as Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Chief Sustainability Officer, and was the principal architect of Garcetti’s Sustainable City pLAn. He also helped create Climate Mayors, a consortium of U.S. leaders whose cities are adopting The Paris Agreement. For much of his earlier career, he headed Global Green USA, a pioneer in the greening of affordable housing.
Petersen has long called for individuals to reclaim their role as citizens. “We can all become a living, breathing solution to the environmental and economic crises we are simultaneously facing,” he says.
He currently serves on the boards of Global Green USA, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, and The Hillary Institute. He’s an adjunct professor at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
